Manzilian Styles Explained: Your Options Beyond 'All Off'

Published on June 15, 2025

Manzilian doesn't mean one thing. Here's what the term actually means, how it compares to other male waxing, and the style options available to you.

"Manzilian" gets used as a catch-all term, and a lot of men assume it means one specific thing: everything removed, no options. It doesn't. Just like women's Brazilian waxing covers a range of styles, Manzilian waxing is a menu, not a single service. Here's what the term actually covers and how to figure out which option fits you.

What Does "Manzilian" Actually Mean?

Manzilian simply means Brazilian-style waxing applied to the male intimate area — front, sides, and back. The name is shorthand for "male Brazilian," not a specific style. What it looks like afterward is entirely up to you and what you discuss with your esthetician beforehand.

Manzilian vs. Regular Men's Waxing: What's Different?

"Men's waxing" is the umbrella term for any body-hair removal service for men — chest, back, arms, legs. Manzilian refers specifically to the intimate/groin area. It's a more delicate, more precise service than body waxing elsewhere, which is why it's usually discussed as its own category rather than lumped in with a general body wax. If you're looking for the broader overview of everything men's waxing covers, start here; this post is specifically about the intimate-area styles.

The Style Options: It's Not All-or-Nothing

Here's the menu most men don't realize exists:

  • Full removal: Everything, front to back. This is what most people picture when they hear "Manzilian," and it's the most requested option — but it's not the only one.
  • Partial/trimmed: A shorter, more natural look rather than fully bare. Popular with men who want the hygiene and comfort benefits without going completely smooth.
  • Shaped/sculpted front: Front area shaped and defined, sides and back cleaned up — a middle-ground look that's neat without being severe.
  • Back and sides only: Some men prefer to keep the front as-is and just address the areas most prone to trapping sweat and causing chafing.

None of these are "more correct" than the others — the whole point of a consultation is figuring out which one matches what you actually want, not defaulting to the most extreme option.

How to Decide What's Right for You

A few questions worth thinking about before your appointment:

  • Is your main goal hygiene/comfort, or aesthetics? If it's mainly about reducing sweat, odor, and friction during workouts, a partial or back-and-sides approach may be all you need. If it's aesthetic, full removal or sculpting is more common.
  • Is this your first time? Many first-timers choose a partial or trimmed style for their first visit, then go fuller on future appointments once they know what to expect.
  • How much upkeep do you want? Fuller removal generally looks "finished" longer between appointments than a trimmed style, which can look like it needs a touch-up sooner.

How Styling Requests Actually Work at Your Appointment

Whatever you're picturing, just describe it in plain terms during the quick consultation at the start of your visit — "everything," "just trim it down," "clean up the back and sides but leave the front" all work fine as instructions. There's no wrong way to ask, and adjusting the plan mid-appointment if you change your mind is completely normal too.
